Humana Health Savings Accounts FAQs
How does a HumanaOne Health Savings Account plan pair with a Health Savings Account (HSA) to save me money?
These plans meet the IRS definition of a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). Choosing a qualified HDHP may save you money in two ways:
- An HDHP with a higher deductible may cost you less in premiums.
- When you're covered by a qualified HDHP - and you're not covered by any other health insurance plan or claimed as a dependent on someone else's tax return - you can put money in a Health Savings Account (HSA). The HSA allows you to use tax-advantaged1 savings to help pay your deductible and other qualified expenses, so your money goes farther.
How can I open an HSA?
We provide convenient access to banking partners who can help you establish your HSA. Of course, if your own financial institution offers an HSA, you may use theirs.
Will HumanaOne Health Savings Account plans pay benefits if I need medical care in another city?
Yes. Your health plan goes with you. Because of our extensive network, you'll more than likely be able to access in-network services across the continental United States.
Can I see the same physicians who already treat me?
You have the freedom to see the provider of your choice. You will receive the most savings from your plan when visiting an in-network provider, but you're still partially covered if you choose to visit an out-of-network provider. See if your doctor is in Humana's network with our physician finder tool.
What is the advantage of using doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies that are in-network?
You save money. Humana gets discounts from these medical providers and we pass these savings on to you.
What happens after I'm approved HumanaOne Health Savings Account Plan?
You'll receive a Health Plan Guide containing the information you need to start using your HumanaOne Health Savings Account plan with confidence. In addition, you can call our customer care consultants or go online any time.
When is my policy/certificate effective?
The earliest your coverage can begin is the day all applicants sign the application. However, if you haven't had major medical coverage within the last 63 days, you'll have two start dates: 1. Coverage for accidents will start the day you request (subject to approval) 2. Coverage for sickness begins on the 15th day after the approved effective date of your plan.
Are you going to raise the rates as soon as I become a member?
The rate for your current plan is guaranteed not to increase for the initial 12 months, as long as you stay with the same coverage and reside in the same area.
What is a Condition Specific Deductible?
A condition-specific deductible allows us to extend coverage for certain conditions that wouldn't otherwise be covered or would have a waiting period. When coverage is excluded on a particular condition, the plan doesn't cover any services for these conditions- you just need to meet a separate deductible first- and you can take advantage of discounts with network providers. Our network discounts saved our members over 50% off of outpatient billed charges2. Condition specific deductibles are not applicable in Kentucky.
